A Moose and His Antlers Only male moose grow antlers, that I already knew. What I didn't know was that the antlers fall off each and every fall after mating season. Weird... Come springtime, the moose will regrow a new set of antlers. It takes about five months for the antlers to fully develop...something about this process just seems exhausting. In fact, these dogs are also known for having a bit of an attitude. They are extremely loyal to their owners and many times have difficulty playing nice with other animals. They don't call them ankle biters for nothing! I guess when you're the tiniest dog in the dog world, you have to develop some way to protect yourself. Source posted by Michelle Leo the Lion - a Copilot? Do you know the lion that appears before you watch an MGM film? That is Leo. Can you imagine being stuck in an airplane with just him? This is what happened to Martin Jensen. Martin Jensen was chosen by MGM studios to fly Leo from San Diego to New York. They modified a plane that had shorter wings and extra fuel, food, and water for Leo. Jenson left San Diego but five hours later, he got stuck in a box canyon in what is now Hellsgate Wilderness, near Payson, Arizona. He ended up landing since he knew it would be difficult to fly out of the canyon. Unfortunately, the wings and some of the gears were torn off when he landed. Jensen gave the lion some food and water and then went searching for help. Four days later, he finally found some cowboys that led him to a telephone. MGM's first question to Jensen was, "How is the lion?" Luckily, Leo was returned in good health. The canyon used to be known as "Hell's Canyon" but it is now called "Leo Canyon" in honor of Leo. Source posted by Julia Why Don't People Ride Zebras? Haven't you ever wondered why people ride horses but not zebras? Apparently, many people throughout history have attempted to train and breed zebras for riding. Occasionally, it has been successful, but it turns out that zebras in general are extremely unpredictable and not very safe to ride. They have a tendency to panic under stress which can lead to dangerous situations for the person riding the zebra. Who knew? Source posted by Michelle Just a Few Interesting Things I Learned About Meerkat Pups Meerkats, like cats and dogs, give birth in litters. A typical meerkat litter consists of three pups, but they can have as many as five. The pups live in an underground burrow until they are at least 21 days old, by that time, their ears and eyes have opened. They are weaned from their moms around 49-63 days old, then they join the other meerkats on the never-ending search for food. When the meerkats turn about one year old, it is time for them to become parents. Whoa...that was quick.
