How Many Pounds of Meat Can You Eat in an Hour?

Wow! I've NEVER been to a restaurant like this!
Mel's Country Cafe is known for its insane food challenge called, "The Mega Mel."

In the challenge, you need to eat
this burger made out of:
1.5 pounds of fresh ground
1 pound of bacon
1/4 pound of American cheese
And lots and lots of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, & pickles

Here are the official rules to the competition:

1. If you leave anything on your plate, you will be disqualified.

2. If anyone takes anything off your plate, you will be disqualified.

3. You must be able to walk and talk after eating the Mega Mel Burger.

4. If you get sick at any time, you will be disqualified.

5. You have two hours to eat the Mega Mega Mel Burger.

6. We will stop you from eating if at anytime we feel you are going to get sick.

7. The most important thing is to remember that the Mega Mel Burger is a fun event at Mel's Country Cafe, so please have fun with it.

Would you even dare to try?

The Toque: A Chef's Hat

From the 1200's to the 1500's it was quite popular for men in Europe to wear a toque, a hat with no brim at all.
These were particularly popular in France and eventually became used only in kitchens.
The toque blanche became standard uniform for chefs in France around the 1800's.
A famous French chef named Boucher was the first to insist that all chefs wore the tall, round, pleated, white hat in the kitchen for sanitary reasons.

I never knew  a chef's hat had a special name.

Puzzles on a Mission

London based artist, Angeli Patel, designed these neat animal shaped puzzles with a unique twist.
Underneath each puzzle piece there is an undesirable fact about the meat industry.
Angeli is hoping that this information will lead children to the benefits of eating less meat and potentially open their minds to choosing a vegetarian lifestyle.
This would have freaked me out when I was a kid for sure!

Art That Makes You Hungry

Artist Martha Friedman created this seven-foot tall sculpture Waffle back in 2008.

It was placed in the Metrotech Center in Brooklyn, NY from November 2008 - September 2009 as part of the Public Art Fund's exhibit entitled Trapdoor.
You've got to wonder if waffle sales in the area skyrocketed during that time. This thing sure makes me want to eat a waffle or two!

Deep Fried Twinkie

Twinkie sales are down with each passing year, which some may say is a good thing
because these tasty treats are definitely not nutritionally good for you.
To be honest, I haven't had a Twinkie in years, but I would totally break my diet for the
chance to try a deep-fried Twinkie.
These tasty treats are extremely popular at The Texas State Fair and
are rapidly spreading to other fairs across the nation.
Anyone ever try one?

Canstruction is the Most Unique Food Charity in the World!

What a great way to get people to donate food! A nonprofit company known as Canstruction Inc. has competitions around different cities in order to collect cans to feed homeless people. Each group competing is responsible for building a structure entirely out of canned food. After a winner is chosen in each city, their exhibit is displayed at a large art show.

That Explains Why This Cheese Tastes Like Plastic

In the past, this type of American Cheese was made from a blend of cheeses, but not anymore. This processed cheese is made from milk, whey, milkfat, milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate, and salt.
There are regulations on what they can call it. It can't be called just "cheese". It has been called processed cheese, singles, etc.

I think I will stick to the natural cheeses in the future!

Chili...Cincinnati-Style

Cincinnati is Ohio's third largest city, home to the Reds and the Bengals, and a place where people love chili.

There are over 140 chili restaurants within the city; practically one on every corner.
The great citizens of Cincinnati "eat more than 2 million pounds of chili each year topped by 850,000 pounds of shredded cheddar cheese."
Cincinnati-style chili is known for having a hint of cinnamon or chocolate and is served over a plate of spaghetti or on a hot dog.
I'm not gonna lie, I kind of want some right now!
