Amazing Photography of an Unusual Race in Switzerland
In the 1940's the Swiss Army began having soldiers compete in a race held in the Pennine Alps.
This race involves hiking and skiing in a team of three up a giant snowy mountainside.
It was extremely dangerous and could easily turn deadly, so the race was banned in 1949.
In 1984, the race started up again and is held every other year to this day.
The record times for completing the race are:
5 hours 52 minutes 20.7 seconds for a mens team in 2010
7 hours 41 minutes 18 seconds for a women's team in 2010.
Check out these incredible photos by Swiss photographer Jürg Kaufmann of the race....so beautiful!

Watch Out For The Bite of a Russell's Viper
If you're traveling to the East, anywhere from India to Taiwan, be sure to make a mental picture of the snake in the photograph below and STAY AWAY.
My theory is to stay far away from all snakes, but the Russell's Viper is known as one of the most poisonous snakes in the world.
These snakes tend to stay clear of cities, but out in farmland, they are abundant.
Growing to be about 5 feet long, just one untreated bite can lead to death in humans.
These snakes reproduce like crazy; a female can lay as many as 25 eggs at a time!

A Moose and His Antlers
Only male moose grow antlers, that I already knew.
What I didn't know was that the antlers fall off each and every fall after mating season.
Weird...
Come springtime, the moose will regrow a new set of antlers.
It takes about five months for the antlers to fully develop...something about this process just seems exhausting.

"Lean on Me"
Patrick Dougherty is quite the artist. He makes sculptures out of tree saplings. It usually takes him and a group of volunteers about three weeks to gather up material from the environment and build these structures. Since everything is from the environment, the material usually breaks down after awhile and returns to the earth.
Patrick has made over 200 of these Stickwork projects throughout his 25 year career. When he first began this line of work, he built his own home for his family in North Carolina using the resources from the land. His work is quite impressive.

New Start-Up Company is Selling Tickets to the Moon
A group of former NASA executives have started a new company, the Golden Spike Co., that is selling tickets to the moon and back for $750 million.
These guys are hoping to have the first trip ready to go in 2020 and are planning on selling the tickets to foreign countries and space tourists.
This could really change the way we think about the moon.
Once people are traveling back and forth regularly, it is fairly certain that the price to visit the moon will start to decrease.
People will probably find someway to exploit the moon; I'm almost sure of it.
Poor moon. Enjoy your last few years of peace and quite.
