The Legend Of The Tree That Swallowed The Bicycle

It has been said, many times, that a boy left his bike chained to a tree when he went away to war in 1914.
He never returned, leaving the tree no choice but to grow around the bike.

This is the legend...but here is the truth.

This bicycle belonged to Don Puz.
He never liked this bike, and in 1954 he left it in the woods and never went back for it.
It is assumed that someone must have chained it to the tree,  however this part is unknown for sure.

It's neat how the legends is more fun to believe in than the truth.

These two photo's I'm viewing above are not the same bicycle! The top photo is of a much older model bicycle and the bottom one is obviously a child's bike while the top one looks to be an adult bike. Look at the handlebars, how they are shaped differently. The hand grips are different as are the fenders! These are clearly two different pictures.

Are they the same bike or not....I have no idea. I hear what Christine is saying...but maybe the photos were taken years apart....it is a great mystery. It's hard to believe that there are two bikes stuck in the middle of a giant growing tree.
