Tacos Were Invented In the 18th Century By Silver Miners

No one is 100% sure of where or when the taco was first invented.
I always imagined it was a style of eating food that had been around for thousands of years.

However, Jeffery M. Pilcher, a history professor at the University of Minnesota, has spent the last 20 years investigating the evolution of Mexican food. He states that tacos might not be as old as we think.
He believes that tacos were invented in the silver mines of Mexico in the 18th century.
The word "taco" was used in the these mines to refer to the tiny little gunpowder sticks they would use to excavate the silver.
These explosive sticks resembled the taco that we eat today, except they were filled with gunpowder instead of meat and cheddar cheese.

The word "taco" first showed up in the dictionary at the end of the 19th century.
In the definition, the dictionary described a "taco de minero" as a miner's taco.
