Wow, That Dog is Strong! The Bernese Mountain Dog can be very helpful on a farm. The dogs can pull ten times their body weight. When horses were scarce years ago, townspeople used a bunch of these dogs to pull carriages and carts. These dogs have strong back legs that help them lunge forward; therefore, they can haul a lot of weight in a cart. When they are just wee little puppies, the Bernese Mountain Dogs start off by pulling a piece of plywood to get used to the feeling of something being dragged behind them. One Bernese Mountain Dog pulled 210 pounds over 30 yards. Maybe I should get one of these dogs instead of carrying my groceries home from the store. Posted by Alena
