Nature's Flashlight
If you have ever seen an organism glow, I am sure you will agree with me that it is the coolest thing ever. I was kayaking at night in Fiji awhile ago and every time I put my paddle in the water, it lit up!
Truly amazing!
The object below is one of 60 species of fungus that glows on it's own. This fungus, known as Panellus Stipticus, grows on decaying beech, birch, and oak trees. When I think of fungus, I certainly don't imagine this.
Certain living organisms give off a glowing light due to the action of enzymes.
It is so bright because the intensity of the glow builds and lasts for days.
I hope some of this fungus is growing on a tree next time I go camping.
