Memories of the Carolina Parakeet
Wouldn't it be nice to see these parakeets flying around in the United States?
A hundred years ago, they were native to the United States and people did see them in the eastern part of the country. In fact, people loved the looks of these birds so much that they started making hats out of their beautiful feathers and captured them for pets.
Because of these actions, they became extinct in 1918.
The last one died at the Cincinnati Zoo.
