A Brief History of the Toothbrush

The very first toothbrush is believed to have been invented in China over 1,000 years ago.
People used either hog or horse bristles instead of the modern plastic bristles we use today.
The handles were usually made out of bone...how gross is that?
It wasn't until 1780 that toothbrushes were mass-produced and available to the general public.
A man, named William Addis, spent some time in jail where inmates were cleaning their teeth with a rag covered in soot and salt.
After that, William designed a method to create toothbrushes. When he was released from prison, he started a business that manufactured toothbrushes.
Needless to say, he died a very rich man!
In the USA, it wasn't until after WWII, when the soldiers were required to by the military, that people began brushing their teeth everyday.

Man...I've never been so thankful for my toothbrush!

just because the jails and napolean used that stuff doesn't mean the law-abiding commoners did lol. baking soda! the BO is a completely different matter, depending on your class/how much money you had, what era exactly, and what part of the world. it's a fascinating thing.

I am much more concerned about that woman's internal organs than I am about the horse hair in her toothbrush! Holy corsetry, Batman.
