Not Enough Room for a Garden in Your Yard? Try making a vertical garden. No one ever said that a garden has to be horizontal. This may seem like a new idea, however, creating green walls date back to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon in 600 BC. Hundreds of years later, in 1931, Stanley Hart White got a patent for this concept. I can only imagine that it is helpful to the building with all the extra oxygen it produces.
