Who was the real Dracula?
Many of us have seen movies with vampires and certainly know the most famous one, Dracula. This character was based on a real person named Vlad the Impaler. Over 500 years ago, Vlad was the ruler of Wallachia (modern day Romania). He became ruler after his father, Vlad Dracul. His father belonged to the Order of the Dragon and eventually was known as Dracul, meaning "Devil". Although Vlad only ruled for just under seven years, he will always be remembered because of his horrible method of ruling. He killed thousands of people fighting against the Ottoman Empire. He loved to impale humans and insects. His favorite form of torture was making his victim sit on a sharp, thick stake. Some people believe that he would like to eat the blood and flesh of his victims.
