43 years ago, scientists first confirmed that water existed somewhere besides Earth. Now, scientists have found what they believe to be the largest supply of water ever found. How much water is that? Well, 140 trillion times the amount of water that we have here on Earth. (Keep in mind that a trillion = one million million, so it looks like this: 140,000,000,000,000 times the amount we already have here on this wet planet!!)
The water is out in space, a place we used to think of as desolate and desert dry, but it's turning out to be pretty lush.
The water is in a cloud around a huge black hole. The active black hole, called a quasar, is in the process of sucking in matter and spraying out energy. The waves of energy the black hole releases make water by literally knocking hydrogen and oxygen atoms together.
