Gecko inspired adhesive tape
The tiny lizard known as a gecko has intrigued scientists for many years.
A group of scientists from Germany have been working on designing a tape that is similar to the feet of geckos.
The reason why geckos can walk around on any wall or surface without slipping off is because the the tiny hairs, called setae (pronounced see-tee), that cover their feet and legs.
At the end of each tiny hair it splits a 1000 more times which creates a strong suction. That is why geckos can walk upside down or on any surface.
A small piece of this tape is strong enough to handle the weight of an adult and can be re-used many times. Also, it can be stuck to any surface under water.
Wow, this is amazing!
This tape is not yet on the market, but hopefully we will see it soon in stores.
