A solar lamp, WakaWaka, brings light to Africa!
It is sad to me to think that 20% of the world does not have electricity.
Here in America, we are constantly waisting electricity.
Look at Las Vegas for example...
The amount of electricity this city uses in one night ,could light up an entire country for days.
Thanks to the Dutch, places in Africa can have solar lights.
A Netherlands company, Off-Grid Solutions, created a lamp that can provide up to 16 hours of light and be recharged from the sun.
The lamp is small enough to fit in a soda bottle.
The price of these lamps is currently $35, but they are working on a way to reduce the cost so Africans can take advantage of these lamps.
The average daily income in some of the countries in Africa is only $2 a day.
Off-Grid Solutions hopes to reduce the price to less than $10 per lamp.
These lamps are already being used in schools in Kenya and Tanzania.
