An invention that has changed our lives!
Most of don't even notice the black and white lines that make up bar codes.
This one invention alone has changed our world dramatically.
Everything bought from a store has a unique code.
Norman Woodland first developed an early form of the bar code in 1949 by combining ideas from movie soundtracks and Morse code to help him speed up store checkouts.
Now, with just one swipe, the details of the item, such as price and stock levels, instantly appears.
What would we do without them?
I already hate standing in long lines, but can you imagine how long lines in stores would be without them?
I am fascinated that each item has it's unique code.
That is a lot of different patterns.
