Young@Heart is a traveling chorus of people ranging in ages 73-89.
They are awesome.
This group sings all modern music in a really cool and interesting way.
I first fell in love with Young@Heart when I saw the documentary Young@Heart.
I totally recommend it.
The genius behind this group is Bob Climan.
Back in 1982, he transformed his job of serving food to the elderly into creating a powerful and inspirational chorus that travels and tours around the country.
Through the years the group has gained lots of fans and sells out all of their shows.
There are currently 30 performers in Young@Heart.
Some were professional singers and musicians.
Some who never stepped on stage until they turned 80.
This video is one of my favorites.
Young@Heart is covering "Fix You" by Coldplay.
It is sung by Fred Knittle, who died shortly after this was recorded.
Fred was a World War II machine-gunner who later worked for The Clarke School for the Deaf.
He is singing with a oxygen tube due to his poor health.
He was supposed to sing this song with his friend, but his friend passed away a week before the performance.
Sure, it's sad....but at the same time it's awesome.
I hope, when I'm really old, I can have fun and rock a stage like this.
(The translations are kind of fun....it's the only version available)
