A True Hero I recently visited the White House in Washington, D.C. and saw this painting of George Washington. This picture, painted by Gilbert Stuart, is one of the only original items that survived the White House fire during the War of 1812. As the British were approaching Washington, D.C., most of the people were fleeing the city. Dolley Madison, wife of James Madison, would not leave the White House without this painting. Thanks to her bravery and courage we still have this original piece.
