Sesame Street had it's very first show on November 10, 1969.
Today, Sesame Street turns 42 years old!
Sesame Street is now a crazy international success.
The show has broadcasts in over 120 countries, and over 20 independent international versions.
The show features Jim Henson's muppets, animations, live shorts, humor, and celebrity appearances.
Sesame Street was the very first TV show to base it's contents on research trying to figure out what is best for young kids to learn.
In the late 1960's 97% of homes in the USA had a television set.Preschool children were watching an average of 27 hours of TV per week.
However, the programs for children were widely criticized for being violent and non-educational.
That's why Sesame Street was created.
It's been a giant success, and we hope Sesame Street is around for a many years to come.
Here's a clip from the first Sesame Street ever...it's changed a bit in the last 42 years.
