Interesting Trivia: Where we get the name "Postman" from?
Have you ever wondered why we use the words we use?
They must have originated from somewhere.
The term post, was used to describe messengers originated in the 13th century with Marco Polo.
Marco Polo described Khan's network of of more than 10,00 yams, or relay stations, calling ten, in Italian, post, or "posts".
They were located every 25 to 45 miles on the main roads of the empire.
Also, at 3 mile intervals between the post there were relay stations for runners, who would wear belts with bells on them as a signal of the importance of their business. We would use sirens now.
I am sure most of our words have an interesting story behind them.
